Mickey
Birth date: May 29, 2000
The Drama King, Mischievous Mickey, Bully, Little Napoleon are all names that have been used to reference this beautiful, all black, and very talented gelding. Mickey is NOT an easy horse – but he is a magnificent horse in many, many ways. A local rider, Sally, partnered with him for a number of years and they became well known winners throughout the horse show circuit for the Montana Tennessee Walking Horse Association of Montana. Sally did a terrific job of showing his many talents as a walking horse with his true, four beat running walk. She and Micky won many blue and red ribbons. They also covered many mountain trail rides in very difficult terrain – and he covers all the challenges of such trails with ease. He is a sure footed horses, athletic, and willing mountain horse who can cover the miles with energy to spare.
Sally really understood Mickey and brought out the best in him – which can be a challenge for less accomplished riders. Mickey likes to make fuss over little events – hence the Drama King nickname. It’s up to his rider to support and give him confidence while at the same time discouraging any antics. Like many human drama kings, Micky’s bad boy behavior really reveals a lack of self confidence. He would like to be the BIG boss of the entire herd – BUT he does not willingly “go first” as true equine leaders must. Instead, he tries to bully the other horses into making them think he is boss, which, of course, totally back fires and earns him only disrespect. YES, Micky can get misunderstood – but if someone takes the time to get to know him, love him, and support him, he is a superb horse. He can be affectionate, always read to go, and he has the fastest, smoothest gait of any horse. He never balks at loading or unloading from the trailers, he is an easy traveler in spite of his need for near constant motion, and what a handsome horse he is.
Mickey has recently formed a new relationship with Juliette – and in spite of Mickey’s drama antics and Juliette’s older age, they are a great pair. As a former dancer, Juliette has the athletic abilities of a woman much younger than her years and she loves to move along with him. Her natural balance and strong body give her everything she needs to stick with him when he acts up. She greatly values Mickey’s desire to move, and move with grace and ease. The two of them are very proficient equine soccer players – she is a determined competitor and Mickey loves to kick the ball. Juliette is learning to put aside her natural tendency to “go along in order to get along” and has begun to demand more attention and discipline from Mickey. They are teaching each other some great lessons and are proving to be very good for each other! Juliette even choreographed and presented a dance with Mickey to the delight of guests at one of Dunrovin Ranch’s Mothers’ Day Brunches.
