Isabel Bonilla
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Maria Isabel Bonilla was born in Cali, Colombia. This city is known for its lush tropical environment and a dynamic, vibrant Salsa music scene. Her artwork is mainly influenced by an intense sense of nostalgia for her homeland. She finds inspiration in diverse elements like Pre-Columbian art, native flora and fauna and childhood memories. She considers her artwork “Tropical Surrealism with a hint of Salsa music” and favors a flashy, psychedelic aesthetic that combines traditional mediums like acrylics and watercolors with more unexpected materials like glitter, sequins and gemstones.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Cadence, rhythm, tempo. Each heartbeat strikes a chord, each hoof beat is a vibrant note echoing in eternity. A symphony of cosmic proportions. A magnificent sonata, where the movement of the ethereal horse resonates within nature and the human soul. This touching melody feeds off the golden rays of the sun, and basks in the silver beams of the moon. Magical motifs, audacious colors and hypnotic shimmer are essential elements for embodying the sublime, elusive nature of the equestrian waltz.
